1. Don’t steal office supplies
An office supplies survey by career publisher Vault, Inc. found that 67 percent of employees have taken office supplies from work to use outside the office or for matters unrelated to the job. Stealing office supplies like notepads, pens, staplers, CDs etc is not a good idea. If it ever becomes known, it will only show that you cannot be trusted and will leave a bad impression on your colleagues if not your boss.
2. Don’t talk behind your co-workers
Completely avoid talking behind others, especially your boss or immediate supervisor. The person you tell about your others today could be telling them about you tomorrow.
3. Don’t talk about religion
Some like to keep their religion personal others talk about it whenever they get a chance. But it may be better to be of the first group when it comes to work environment. As much as you discuss the religious topics respectfully, you will always have people around you that you may unknowingly offend.
4. Don’t disclose your wage
Keep your monthly $$$ to yourself, if you want to count on your next raise. Many employers keep each individual employee’s salary confidential for a good reason, which is for your own good and if course your employer’s.
5. Don’t talk politics
Brush off political talk with the office co-workers within the work environment, especially during the elections or at times of political unrest. Leave your political views at the coffee shop.
6. Don’t talk about your sex life
If you are having a great time in bed at home or otherwise, no one at work needs or should know about it. Many people tend to quickly change their views about you once they find out the details of your sex life.
7. Avoid spending too much time online
Most companies monitor their employee’s productive time. If you work for a big company and have been granted online privileges, be sure that the sites you go on and your time online is being monitored. You’d be surprised at how much they know about you through the sites you visit.
8. Avoid dating co-workers
If you like your job, you should avoid going out on dates with your co-workers. When work relationships do not work out awkwardness is usually the only outcome. Many people have been forced to quit their jobs or asked for a transfer due to this very reason.
9. Don’t apply for another job
Keep your resume editing at home, unless of course the position is an internal one. Many companies would not like to invest money and resources on individuals who have departing intentions.
10. Leave while on the clock.
You might get by once or twice every now and then for going on lucnch earlier and coming back a little later, or leaving work 10 minutes earlier than your coworkers. But if this becomes a habit, you are likely to catch your bosses attention. Sometimes that 5 to 10 mintues could be the difference maker between you keeping your job or you being laid off.
